Finding His Feet

Fine Art Cow Print

How fragile this new born calf is!

So young that his body seems ‘perched’ on those long fragile legs.

Legs that have a certain ‘wobble’ about them.

The calf’s head casts a beautiful navy shadow across his body and strong saturated colour pulls the viewers’ eye across an array of detail.

The tonal range…from light to shadow makes for a study that almost jumps from the page.

The story behind...

Finding His Feet

In this depiction, I was determined to capture a sense of the creature’s fragility as he gets used to a brand new world.

The frail stance all adds to his sense of wonder.

We feel a certain empathy towards him as he navigates new surroundings.

I kept my mark-making sensitive, fresh and light in this study due to the delicate nature of the subject-matter.

Attention to detail was paramount and I hope that I have struck an aesthetically pleasing balance.
