Kinetic Coastline, Wild Atlantic Way
Fine Art Original Irish Landscape Oil Painting
The scale of this original painting and its sense of captured coastal energy makes for a striking ‘statement’ piece.
Earthy hues of the landscape contrast with cobalt colours of the sea.
Scribbles and scrapes of the palette knife represent the underwater linear patterned rocks that lurk just beneath the surface.
Fast and expressive mark-making create that stored almost vibrating, wild atmosphere that explodes seemingly even beyond the outer edges of the canvas.

Kinetic Coastline, Wild Atlantic Way
This study doesn’t depict any one particular scene on the Wild Atlantic Way, but is a combination of influences.
Inspirations go right back to my to childhood memories and to the present day.
My main ones are rooted in the Donegal coast especially the Rosguill peninsula near Downings where we had a caravan for many years.
Frequent visits to the rugged Bloody Foreland coastline near Bunbeg features too and to my grandfather’s county of Galway and the wonderful Connemara colours and textures…so
similarities to Donegal are also there.
And not forgetting the powerful impact recent visits to the Aran Island have on how I observe and interpret these remote and exposed areas of the Wild Atlantic Way.
