Towards The “City” From The Upper Springfield

Fine Art Belfast Print

This is a moody and serene cityscape.

Belfast’s iconic ‘City’ hospital building dominates the skyline and delicate, highly considered detail contrasts with spontaneous brushstrokes and finger-painting.

The seemingly infinite rooftops and buildings span out.

Colours are lustrous, shadowy, saturated and radiant.

The story behind...

Towards The “City” From The Upper Springfield

Composition and use of colour was of great importance to me while creating this piece.

I wanted the viewer’s eye to move across it in an aesthetically pleasing way beginning with the flash of saffron yellow that represents the ‘City’ hospital.

Dazzling lemons contrast with very saturated Prussian blues to create what I hope is a contemporary and atmospheric depiction of our city.
