Bull Calf 2018
Fine Art Calf Print
Head lowered with a pensive look in his eye, this copper coloured bull calf makes his way around the field.
His strong and chunky body has been represented by splashes of vibrant and rich hues.
A ‘copper’ rainbow is on display – saffron, lemon, crimson being just a few of its many elements.
This rainbow of colour strikes an aesthetically pleasing balance and the painting’s ambiance has an overall contemporary feel.
The viewer’s eye is invited to ‘dance’ over the calf’s muscled bovine body.
His gentle and almost regal movement works in tandem with the painting’s composition.
Our eye moves across the scene, from upper left to the tactile forehead and slowly rests on those dark, inky eyes.

Bull Calf 2018
I’ve used flashes of cobalt and correleum blue in the shadow radiating from under the calf’s head.
This brings the shadow to life and creates an important sense of depth.
The calf’s angled legs give direction to our focus.
Our eyes move across them to his distinctive copper eye marking.
It’s always a unique feature or characteristic such as this, that draws me to a particular animal and I feel an urge to record it on canvas.
